One student's thoughts on Winthrop's construction projects are "all over the place."
As construction work continues, the Anthony J. and Gale N. DiGiorgio Campus Center is expected to open mid 2010. Construction for the $21 million project began in Spring 2008. The 128,229 ft. building will include things such as a food court, post office, class rooms, lounges, meeting rooms and movie theater.
"I have heard there will be a Popeye's at the new student center. I would much rather have seen a Chic-fil-a instead," Sophomore IMC major Tyler English said. English also said they should have asked students what they wanted to see inside the student center.
Along with recent completed projects such as Scholar's Walk, Carroll Hall and the renovation of Tillman there is a proposal for a new library, renovation to Phelps Hall and hopeful music library addition to Music Conservatory Hall.
"Dacus Library is very outdated and Winthrop needs to upgrade to newer facilities in order to continue to attract new student," English said. Winthrop University's proposed plans says the Library will include both traditional contemporary collections and historic archives, as well as coordinating access to a global array of up-to-the-minute on-line information resources. English said he hopes that it is here in time for him to see.
